The Original UMAMI Crave the Fifth
UMAMI Dressing, Dip and Finishing Sauce isn’t just a salad dressing; it makes ordinary food EXTRAordinary:
Add it to coleslaw.
Toss on warm, roasted potatoes.
Use it instead of ketchup. On anything.
Turn a can of smoked oysters into haute cuisine.
Drizzle on eggs, cooked any way (includes omelettes and quiche).
Instead of soya sauce on rice or sushi.
The final touch on a pizza fresh out of the oven.
On a charcuterie tray with bread for dipping.
As a spread on sandwiches, or mixed into egg/tuna/salmon/ chicken salad sandwiches (a little less mayo, a little more UMAMI)
UMAMI really is a bottle of possibilities.
Introducing…

We are in the final execution stages of offering them to ALL of our retail partners; supply chain issues have prevented us from doing so to date but we finally sorted that out. Sign up for our newsletter and be the first to know about the launch!
If I want a smaller portion, can I cook half of a ready to cook grain blend at a time?
We have tested our grain blends very carefully using the ratios of liquid to grains that are listed on the packages. We have customers who have tried to adjust the ratio to only cook half of the bag; some have been successful but most have not. If cooking the whole package gives you more food than you want at a given time, we suggest that you cook it in it’s entirety, cool it, and then freeze it in the portion sizes that you want. These packages freeze beautifully after they are cooked and having them in the freezer means you’ve got a quick meal half way done at any given time! If you do decide not to freeze any portions of a prepared grain blend, you can expect it to last about 5 days in the refrigerator.
CAN I ORDER UMAMI ONLINE?
You most certainly can. Click on the “SHOP UMAMI” tab and start filling your cart! We ship across Canada via Canada Post (ATS in the colder months); your shipping is calculated at checkout. You can also shop online and choose to pick up your order at UMAMI HQ in Kelowna.
WHY IS SHIPPING SO EXPENSIVE?
We use Canada Post to calculate shipping based on your postal code for orders placed April-October. From late October to March, we have to prevent our sauces from freezing as they will split if they do. ATS Healthcare is our shipping partner for sauces in the winter months and we are very happy with their service but it’s not inexpensive.
Here are a couple of tips to get the most value for shipping costs:
It costs about the same to send a box with 2 things in it as it does to send 6 or 8 with both Canada Post and ATS. Consider ordering with a friend or neighbour and share the shipping costs.
Whenever possible, have your order shipped to a business or store instead of to your home. ATS charges $8.95 more for a residential delivery than a business one and they charge it for EVERY time they make a delivery attempt. If your delivery address is your home, please include a phone number on your order so that it can be left at your door if you aren’t home and you can be notified that the delivery has been made.
WHAT ARE THE INGREDIENTS?
We consciously strive to improve the quality of our products and support Canadian companies. To date, we have eliminated sulfites by sourcing red wine vinegar and organic dijon mustard that has no sulfites added. We use only pure, organic maple syrup (sourced from New Brunswick maple trees, no less!) instead of the options widely available commercially. You won’t find any artificial flavors, preservatives or thickeners among our ingredients.
Until August 2022, we were using non-GMO expeller pressed canola oil in all varieties of UMAMI but the rising cost of this commodity made it impossible to continue to do so and we reverted back to conventional canola oil. We will continue to run small batches of UMAMI made with non-GMO canola that is carried by select retail partners including Choices Markets and Nature’s Fare but cost and availability may change that.
Why canola? Because it is one of the most neutral vegetable oils available in the market. We experimented with other oils, like avocado and grapeseed, but they changed the taste and color in an unfavorable way.
All of our ingredients and nutrition facts can be found on our home page.
Does UMAMI Crave the Fifth make any other products?
In addition to the roll out of our ready to cook grain blends, we are excited to be launching a gluten free and vegan worcestershire sauce for both retail and food service. We have been making our own since we created UMAMI Chipotle Caesar because it’s one of the critical ingredients in that gf/vegan dressing; it’s not molasses forward like many gluten free worcestershire sauces and it may be the only vegan one offered by a Canadian food manufacturer! It is very similar in taste to the well known, orange labelled worcestershire sauce brand that people are familiar with. It is currently only available by direct purchase from us but it’s coming SOON to our retailers.
I have a retail store; can I offer UMAMI Crave the Fifth to my customers?
You most certainly can! Send us an email at sales@umamicravethefifth.com and we will contact you directly to discuss our products, marketing opportunities and more.
Have a question that wasn’t answered here? Email us at umami.okanagan@gmail.com and we’ll be happy to help!
